Under PM-VBRY Part A, a qualifying first-time EPFO contributor joining during 1 August 2025–31 July 2027 with gross wages up to ₹1 lakh per month on joining may receive up to ₹15,000. The first payment follows six qualifying wage months; the second requires 12 months plus the prescribed financial-literacy course. The amount depends on EPF wages, not simply your gross monthly salary.

EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive Eligibility Rules 2026: Quick Overview

The EPFO ₹15,000 incentive refers to the employee benefit under Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), also known in earlier announcements as the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. The programme supports first-time entry into formal employment and creates a separate incentive for qualifying employers. The Ministry of Labour and Employment implements it through EPFO.

IMPORTANT / OFFICIAL GUIDELINE

₹15,000 is the cap, not a joining bonus paid to everyone

Part A offers an incentive equivalent to one completed month's EPF wage, capped at ₹15,000. It is divided into two conditional instalments, and the second instalment is intended to be held in a designated savings instrument.

For the definitive rules, see the official 21-page PM-VBRY guidelines (PDF), particularly the definitions on pages 6–8 and employee eligibility and instalment rules on pages 10–11. This guide explains the published rules as checked on 19 October 2026.

Who Is Eligible for EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive?

The employee incentive targets people who are entering EPF contributory membership for the first time, not all employees starting a new job. You must fulfil the conditions set by PM-VBRY Part A, and your employer's EPFO reporting must support the eligibility check.

01 / First-time contributor

You were not a contributing member of EPFO or an exempted provident fund trust before 1 August 2025, and contributions are received for the first time from the applicable scheme period.

02 / Correct joining period

Your date of joining must be between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2027, inclusive, at an EPFO-covered or eligible exempted establishment.

03 / Gross wage limit

Your monthly gross wage on joining must be no more than ₹1 lakh. The limit is an eligibility criterion, not the amount used to calculate the benefit.

04 / Employer contribution records

Eligible wage-month ECR submissions and contributions are essential: six qualifying months for the first payment, 12 for the second.

05 / Aadhaar-authenticated UAN

First-timer UAN verification through Face Authentication Technology (FAT) on UMANG is required under the scheme.

06 / Bank account and course

Direct transfers need an Aadhaar-seeded bank account. The financial-literacy course and further ECR conditions apply to the second payment.

Employees of eligible exempted PF-trust establishments can also fall within Part A; the trust and employer must follow the filing requirements described in the scheme. Seasonal-industry employees have an additional special continuity rule in the official guidelines, so the ordinary six-consecutive-month example may not cover every case.

Am I Eligible for the ₹15,000 Incentive? Quick Self-Check

This short interactive checklist screens only the basic date, salary and first-time PF criteria. It does not access EPFO records, decide whether a person is approved or promise a benefit. Use the result to see which official conditions to verify next.

First-time employee eligibility screener

Runs only in your browser. No Aadhaar, UAN, bank numbers or personal identifiers requested or saved.

What this self-check cannot confirm: your first actual EPF contribution month, employer ECR filing, valid UAN face authentication, current membership classification, Aadhaar bank seeding, month-by-month wage eligibility, course completion or government approval. For these, use the official EPFO channels and your payroll team.

₹1 Lakh Salary Limit vs ₹15,000 EPF Wage: What Is the Difference?

Two different numbers appear in the PM-VBRY rules, and confusing them causes misleading headlines. For Part A, gross wages up to ₹1,00,000 per month at joining determine whether the employee can meet the salary eligibility condition. However, the incentive calculation is based on the EPF wage reported through the employer's contributions—not necessarily the person's complete gross salary or monthly CTC.

The scheme defines gross wage as the total emoluments under the employment contract. The EPF-wage figure used for the scheme is derived from actual EPF contributions in the ECR, including the applicable 12%+12% or 10%+10% contribution basis. Your payroll records and EPFO submissions therefore matter.

TermWhat it meansRole in PM-VBRY Part A
Gross monthly wagesEmployment remuneration as defined in the guidelinesUp-to-₹1 lakh eligibility limit at joining
EPF wageContribution-linked wage derived from EPFO recordsDetermines the incentive amount
₹15,000Maximum employee incentiveNot a flat payment for every eligible employee
₹7,500Maximum first instalmentPayable only after qualifying six-month conditions

For example, an employee may earn a gross ₹25,000 each month while contributions are made on a different EPF wage. That employee's scheme incentive must not automatically be assumed to be ₹15,000 without examining the qualifying wage records.

EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive First and Second Instalment Rules

Under the official employee Part A guidelines, the two instalments are calculated using completed EPF wage months and ECRs with contributions. The familiar phrase “₹7,500 after six months and ₹7,500 after 12 months” is only a maximum-benefit example, not the amount everyone receives.

First instalment: after six completed wage months

The first payment equals half the average EPF wage over six continuous completed wage months, with a maximum of ₹7,500. The employer must have submitted the paid ECRs for the relevant months and the employee must meet the other conditions. A completed wage month has a specific scheme definition: joining on or before the fifth of a month normally counts that calendar month first; joining after the fifth generally makes the next month the first completed wage month.

Second instalment: after 12 months and financial literacy

The second payment is based on the average EPF wage across 12 completed months minus the first instalment, keeping the total benefit at or below ₹15,000. The prescribed financial-literacy programme must be completed, and all 12 completed months of ECRs must have been filed with contributions. The scheme specifies that the 12 months' ECRs for the second instalment should be filed within 18 months of joining.

The guidelines say that the second instalment is to be held in a designated savings instrument or deposit account for a period specified by the government. Therefore, it should not be described as necessarily going immediately into the employee's spendable bank balance. The first direct payout uses the Aadhaar Bridge Payment System.

Timeline is conditional: the scheme describes disbursement within 45 days after fulfilling the eligibility criteria and filing the required paid ECR. That is not a guaranteed date counted simply from your joining day; UAN/bank checks or reporting issues may delay it.

How Much EPFO Incentive Can You Get? Calculation Examples

The following simplified examples assume stable EPF wages, continuous qualifying paid ECR filings and completion of all identity and service requirements. These examples explain the published calculation rules and are not individual payment approvals.

Illustrative average EPF wageFirst instalment (six months)Second instalment (12 months)Total
₹8,000 for both periods₹4,000₹4,000₹8,000
₹12,000 for both periods₹6,000₹6,000₹12,000
₹15,000 for both periods₹7,500₹7,500₹15,000
₹18,000 for both periods₹7,500 (capped)₹7,500 (overall cap)₹15,000
₹10,000 average for first six; ₹12,000 for 12 months overall₹5,000₹7,000₹12,000

Worked example: EPF wage ₹12,000

  1. Six-month average: ₹12,000 EPF wage.
  2. First instalment: 50% of ₹12,000 = ₹6,000, below the ₹7,500 cap.
  3. Twelve-month average: ₹12,000 EPF wage.
  4. Second instalment: ₹12,000 − ₹6,000 = ₹6,000, subject to the remaining requirements.
  5. Total illustrative incentive: ₹12,000, not ₹15,000.

If the actual EPF wage changes, use the relevant six- and twelve-month average values instead of the simplified equal-wage table. The EPFO guidelines give the authoritative computation and rounding instructions.

EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive Apply Online: What Employees Should Do

Searches for “EPFO ₹15,000 incentive apply online” often lead to unofficial forms. The published PM-VBRY mechanism relies on employer EPFO/ECR contribution filings and scheme eligibility verification. The official materials do not establish a universal public form that everyone can fill out to instantly receive ₹15,000.

  1. Confirm first-time membership: ask your employer or EPFO whether your PF contributions truly started for the first time during the scheme period.
  2. Check the joining date and salary: confirm your date of joining and gross wages recorded when you joined the establishment.
  3. Complete UAN face authentication: use official UMANG-based UAN services rather than unknown websites.
  4. Verify contributions and bank seeding: review whether your employer has filed the required ECRs and your bank account is Aadhaar seeded for DBT.
  5. Complete financial literacy: follow official EPFO instructions for the course required for the second instalment.
  6. Track the benefit carefully: use employer/payroll confirmation and official support instead of relying on SMS messages asking for money.

Employers filing returns may need to supply additional establishment details and complete other compliance requirements. An employee should not confuse those employer-side steps with a mandatory registration fee or a personal recruitment application.

UAN Activation and Face Authentication Through UMANG

The PM-VBRY guidelines state that the first-time employee's Universal Account Number (UAN) must be authenticated through Face Authentication Technology (FAT) on the UMANG mobile app. The EPFO Member Portal also currently directs users to UMANG for UAN allocation or activation rather than its retired web activation flow.

General UAN verification steps

  1. Install the genuine UMANG app and follow the official app/store listing.
  2. Choose EPFO Services in the app.
  3. Open the relevant UAN Services Through Face Auth option, such as UAN allotment or activation.
  4. Follow the Aadhaar-based identity and face-verification instructions presented by the official service.
  5. Confirm with HR/payroll that the correct UAN is used for EPF contribution reporting.

App labels and biometric steps can change; always follow the current instructions displayed by the official government service. Keep your UAN credentials private. Never share an OTP, Aadhaar copy or password with a third-party agent offering guaranteed scheme payment.

Is the EPFO Financial Literacy Course Mandatory?

Yes, for the second Part A instalment. The PM-VBRY guidelines define the Financial Literacy Course as an official module covering personal finance, saving, investing and financial planning. The scheme ties second-instalment eligibility to its completion as well as the required 12 completed wage months and ECR submissions.

Look for the prescribed course through official EPFO employee portal or scheme instructions. Check what the portal asks you to complete and retain a legitimate completion record, if provided. There is no reason to purchase a private course claiming to unlock the incentive.

Payment distinction: Completing a course alone does not trigger ₹15,000. All the identity, employer filing, wage and service conditions still apply, and the second instalment follows the scheme's savings-instrument arrangement.

EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive Payment Status: How to Check

Employees searching for “PM-VBRY payment status check” should distinguish an EPF contribution from the government incentive. The PM-VBRY guidelines provide for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to an Aadhaar-seeded bank account for employee cash payouts; the second part has a savings-instrument provision. A PF passbook by itself is not guaranteed to be a complete incentive-payment dashboard.

Useful checks if the first instalment has not arrived

  1. Have six qualifying completed wage months been reported and paid through ECR, considering the rule for the first completed month?
  2. Was your UAN authenticated via UMANG Face Auth, and are employer/UAN details consistent?
  3. Does your bank account have the correct Aadhaar seeding for DBT?
  4. Has the employer filed the required paid ECRs, and have the eligibility conditions actually been satisfied?
  5. Have you checked the actual bank transaction history for a government DBT credit, rather than only EPF balance?
  6. If unresolved, ask employer HR/payroll or use the official EPFO helpdesk 14470 and appropriate grievance channels.

Under the guidelines, missing Aadhaar bank seeding can suspend disbursement while the amount continues to accrue. Once the bank account is correctly seeded, eligible arrears are to be released under scheme rules. This does not mean every uncredited applicant is automatically due ₹15,000; eligibility must still be established.

Common EPFO Incentive Eligibility Scenarios

The most confusing searches involve employees who are new to a company but not new to EPF, people who changed jobs, and employees whose salary structure differs from the EPF wage. These hypothetical cases show how to apply the basic published definitions without claiming to make an official approval decision.

The guidelines contain specialised provisions for seasonal industries and exempted establishments. The official process, not an online quiz or salary-only estimate, determines eligibility.

PM-VBRY Part A vs Part B: Employee and Employer Incentives

PM-VBRY contains two separate parts. Part A is the first-time employee incentive of up to ₹15,000. Part B provides up to ₹3,000 per month for eligible employers generating sustained additional employment, normally for two years, with support extended to four years in manufacturing.

These benefits should not be mixed together: employees cannot treat the employer's monthly Part B payment as an extra ₹3,000 deposited into their personal bank account. Under the employer rules, the net additional-employment threshold generally requires at least two hires above baseline when the baseline is below 50 and five additional hires when the baseline is 50 or above. Those conditions relate to the employer incentive, not a general employee application checklist.

The employer Part B programme may consider first timers and certain re-joiners subject to its own rules. That does not make a prior EPF contributor eligible for the distinct Part A ₹15,000 employee benefit.

Common Mistakes and EPFO Incentive Scams to Avoid

  • Assuming every new employee gets ₹15,000: Part A has first-time PF, wage, service, identity and filing conditions.
  • Using CTC as the calculation wage: the incentive is based on eligible EPF wage, not automatically gross salary.
  • Calling it a same-day joining bonus: the first instalment follows six completed wage months and paid ECRs.
  • Confusing the last joining date: the official scheme guidelines specify 31 July 2027, not 7 July.
  • Assuming all of the second payment is immediately withdrawable: guidelines specify a savings/deposit arrangement.
  • Believing a new job resets old PF history: former contributory PF membership affects Part A first-timer status.
  • Paying unofficial agents: government verification should not require paying strangers for a guaranteed incentive.
  • Sharing personal details on fake sites: only use trusted EPFO, UMANG and PM-VBRY channels for sensitive identity steps.

EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive FAQs (2026)

Who can get the EPFO ₹15,000 incentive in 2026?

A qualifying first-time EPFO or eligible exempted PF-trust contributor with joining during 1 August 2025–31 July 2027 and gross wages up to ₹1 lakh at joining may qualify, subject to UAN, ECR, service and payment conditions.

Will all eligible employees receive exactly ₹15,000?

No. ₹15,000 is the cap. The first instalment is half the average eligible EPF wage for six completed wage months, capped at ₹7,500. The second depends on the 12-month average, first payment and overall ₹15,000 cap.

What is the PM-VBRY scheme last date?

The official scheme registration/joining period runs through 31 July 2027. That is the last included joining date under the published guidelines, not a guaranteed last date for receipt of every payment.

Can someone with an old UAN or previous PF contribution get Part A?

A prior contributing member of EPFO or an exempted provident fund trust generally does not meet Part A's definition of a first timer. Check your exact history with EPFO; employer Part B rules are different.

Is ₹1 lakh the salary limit or the incentive amount?

The ₹1 lakh figure is the maximum gross wage at joining for the eligibility rule. The employee incentive is up to ₹15,000 and is calculated using the reported EPF wage.

When will I receive the first EPFO incentive instalment?

The first becomes payable after six qualifying completed wage months and employer paid ECR filings, subject to verification. The scheme's payment provisions refer to disbursement within 45 days after conditions and filings are fulfilled.

What is needed for the second instalment?

Twelve completed wage months with required contributions/ECRs and completion of the official financial-literacy programme, plus other scheme conditions. The second instalment follows a designated savings arrangement.

How do I apply online for the PM-VBRY employee incentive?

Official processing is based on EPFO records, employer ECR compliance, authenticated UAN and bank details. Use PM-VBRY/EPFO official websites for current procedures, and do not trust third-party paid application forms.

How do I activate UAN with face authentication?

Use the UMANG app, navigate to EPFO Services and choose the appropriate option under UAN Services Through Face Auth; follow current Aadhaar-based identity verification instructions.

Is the financial literacy course required?

Yes, to satisfy the published second-instalment condition. It is one of several requirements and does not guarantee payment by itself.

Why is my PM-VBRY incentive payment delayed?

Possible causes include insufficient completed contribution months, employer ECR delay, incomplete UAN face authentication, Aadhaar bank seeding, or unmet second-instalment conditions. Verify with employer/EPFO; do not assume an entitlement without official confirmation.

Can I get the full amount after changing jobs?

The rules emphasise completed service and contribution conditions and provide for incentive cessation when the first timer leaves employment. Any individual job-change situation requires official EPFO determination; do not assume a transfer preserves the remaining instalment.
